No, we touch our rabbbit kits all the time. Immediately following birth we pull them out one by one inspecting them all to make sure they are alive and well. We count them and place them back. We check them daily to be sure they are all eating and progressing as they should. The only time I had a mother kill her young is when I was forced to move her and her kits to a different cage.

A mother only kills her young if she is stressed or something is wrong or she senses danger. If you handle her all the time then you are not a threat to her or her young.

The other reason a mother will kill or eat her young is if there is something wrong with the kit.

actually no. it wont. rabbits don't have scent and most mothers wont kick them out. but that doesn't give you permission. if you touch it or disturb the nest the mom might sense danger and abandoned the nest, its not usual but can happen. also the baby will and most likely die from shock of being handled by a human. the little ones don't usually bite but if the nest is abandoned or the baby is kicked out, you might need to rehabilitate it. if so try to only handle it when fed and only keep it as long as it needs which is when the little white blaze in the middle of their forehead goes away. if you keep them too long they can become aggressive because they aren't domestic and as they get older are more prone to defend because of instinct. if you think it is so cute, do the right thing and either don't disturb it or release it as soon as possible and get a domestic one :)

If your hands are clean and free of scent a mother rabbit will not abandon her babies (domestic rabbits - not wild rabbits they are much more sensitive). In fact, a domestic rabbit's babies should be checked not long after birth to make sure there are no dead kits in the nest. Clean hands free of scented soaps and lotions should be used. If you are still a little hesitant you could put a small dab of vanilla on moms nose so that all she smells is vanilla until long after whatever scent you may have left is gone. Your rabbits are more likely to accept you checking their kits if they are used to you AND they are in a quiet calm environment,

10 rabbits born alive 3 days later mother rejects 6 rabbits?

If you touch a rabbit under 6-8 months the mother will start to think the ones you hvae touched are not her little loved ones and if u don't leave them alone she may kill or just not feed them and they will have to be hand reared xx i xxANSWER: That's not necessarily true. If the mother is a new mother, first timer, 10 kits may be too many for her to handle. There could be something wrong witht eh kits, usually a mother rabbit's instincts are very good. She will abandon the babies if they will die later or will have diformities or are sick.Theres a number of reasons why a mother would abandon her kits.PS if you touch rabbits when they are born then your hands have to be SOOOO clean.

If you handle baby rats will the mother eat them?

no she will abandon them where they will die because they need her to feed them Do not listen to this person, this is absolutely not true. Baby rats must be handled regularly from the first week they are born or they will not be tame. If the mother rat trusts you she will be fine with this. A female rat will only abandon one of her babies if it is a runt and she already has over 12 babies.

Can you move a robins nest with babies in it?

Nothing will happen. Trust me. When people say that if you touch a nest full of baby birds the mother will abandon it, its not true. Some people believe that or parents just say that to little kids to keep them from touching it. Mother birds will NOT abandon their young if you touch or even handle the chick. I know first hand because as a teen I wanted to become a vet and I hatched a robin egg. Once it hatched I put it back into its mothers nest. I watched the nest and she always came back. Even if I came close or even touched to check the chick I hatched. It eventually grew up and flew away. So, don't believe it if you touch baby birds that the mother will abandon it. Its NOT true!

How many babies can two rabbits have in one year?

The maximum number of rabbits that can be expected to live in any given litter is about 12. (Rabbits can have more, but having more than 12 survive is very unlikely.) Rabbits can have a maximum of 1 litter every 31 days, so the highest possible number is around 144. However, If all of the bunnies are in one area, the number could be much higher. If the first litter is born on the first of January, those babies will be breeding age by about mid May. So the true number of progeny that 2 rabbits could theoretically give rise to in a single year is well over 1,000. This is why it's important to know the gender of your pet rabbits.

How often does a female rabbit have babies. And will the male rabbit eat the babies.?

Every 9 months. No. totally not true rabbits can have babies about every thirty days or so. they are pregnant for 25 to 28 days give or take. some take a month off in between but most dont. so if you have a male and female together expect babies at least every other month.

Do mother squirrels reject babies if touched by a human?

Yes, because they believe humans are all infected. If their babies are touched by a human, their babies become infected. Then they are disowned. Poor squirrels. mi creyz 4 dem

Why are rabbits not allowed in Queensland?

The rabbits that are currently a national pest in Australia are the same species as the domesticated rabbit, both descended from the wild European rabbit. Because so many people think of rabbits as a disposable pet, and some people irresponsibly abandon them on the streets or in the wild when unwanted, banning pet rabbits completely in portions of Australia is understandable. One unspayed rabbit can have an average litter of 4 every 30 days.
