It's true that ALL elements are made up of only one element. Hydrogen contains ONLY hydrogen atoms. Not oxygen atoms, or silver atoms, or xenon atoms, or any other atoms. All known types of elements are listed in a Periodic Table.

Compare elements to molecules. Elements are substances made up soley of one type of atom, which combine with other elements to form molecules. For example, water is written as H2O, 2 atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oygen - one molecule of water requires 2 different elements.

Think of it this way, you can't breeak water down smaller than one molecule of water and have it still be water. Likewise, you can't break one atom of the element hydrogen down and have it still be hydrogen.

Are some atoms made up of two or more different elements?

No any atom is just (and only) an atom of one element.

Are all substances elements?

All gases are made up of elements, but some are not pure elements. Some are compounds, which are not the same as elements. For example, CO2 is a compound and a gas, but not an element.

How is compound and element similar?

Elements and compounds are related in sense that elements bond together chemically to make compounds. A compound can be broken down into pure elements. Example. Water (H20), Is Hydrogen (pure element) and Oxygen (also pure element) bonded together to form a compound (H20). However, while a compound can be broken down into its simple elements, an element cannot be broken down. It is said that an element is the purest whole form. --- Some common substances include both elements (pure elements) and compounds. Air, for example, contains elements such as nitrogen and oxygen, and also compounds such as carbon dioxide (CO2), which is made from carbon and oxygen.

What is the biggest element in the periodic table?

The biggest naturally element is uranium. Scientists have made new elements by merging different elements, but most of these elements just live in some seconds before they spilt again, and aren't considered as natural elements.

Do all isotopes only occur in heavier elements?

No, isotopes of light elements exist as well. For example, there are several isotopes of the lightest element, hydrogen. No, even the lightest element (hydrogen (H)) has isotopes. These are called Deuterium and Tritium. All elements have isotopes but some of them are very unstable and have disappeared in nature over time.

Native elements can be silver or cpper and are made up of one element only.

How can there be 2000 minerals when there are only 88 naturally occurring elements?

The reason why there are more minerals than the number of elements is because minerals are not made up of a single element only. They are made of more than one elements and in some case a combination of elements .

What are some non examples of elements?

A non-example of an element is something that is made up of elements but isn't actually an element. Some examples are water, salt, brass, and steel.

What Is A Example Of A Element?

an element is an atom with a specific number of protons per atom. or it is a substance made of only one type atom. example: gold an element or an atom is defined by the number protons per atom. study the periodic table of the elements for a better understanding

Why do some elements have 1 and some have two?

Some elements have one because they are only based on one pure element. Like Hydrogen, we can get that from the air. Make sense?

How many kinds of atoms are in an element?

Some elements have isotopes - atoms with a different number of neutrons.

Is metal a element?

Metals are a class of elements. A pure metal is an element. Some metals are alloys, which mean they have more than one metal or element in them. The metal bronze is made of two elements, the metal tin and the metal copper.
