Two Whig Party candidates were elected U. S. President, William Henry Harrison in 1840 and Zachary Taylor in 1848. Both gentlemen died in office and were replaced by their Vice Presidents, John Tyler and Millard Fillmore respectively, making a total of four Whig Party Presidents in U. S. history.

(Note: John Tyler was kicked out of the Whig Party in September 1841, so he was actually independent during most of his presidency, the only independent U. S. President beside George Washington.)

Why does a US president usually urge voters to elect members of his or her political party to congress?

The primary purpose for a US president to urge voters to elect members of his or her party to congress is to make it easier for the Party and the president to have bills the Party favors made into laws. A US president usually urges voters to elect members of his political party to congress because the president proposes laws but the congress passes laws. The president is also able to veto laws but the congress can override the President's veto. The congress (Legislative Branch) is also able to approve treaties (and the president negotiates foreign treaties) and the congress can impeach and remove the President and other high officials (the president appoints federal judges, ambassadors, and other high officials).

To the disappointment of the crowd neither the president nor any of his aides were able to attend the ceremony Is this phrase correct specifically the were part?

The sentence is incorrect. The correct version is: 'To the disappointment of the crowd, neither the president nor any of his aides was able to attend the ceremony.' 'Neither' takes the singular form of the verb, not the plural, if the subjects are singular. 'The president' is singular, and 'any of his aides' is singular. However, if at least one of the subjects is plural, so is the verb: 'Neither my parents nor my cousins were able to come to my party.' 'Neither my parents nor my cousin were able to come to my party.' But: 'Neither of my parents was able to come to my party.'

Was the leader of Canada elected for office?

Yes and no. The Prime Minister of Canada is the leader of the political party that is able to form a government because it has sufficient support in Parliament, either because it has a majority of seats or because it can gain the support of other parties. Canadians do not elect the Prime Minister directly; the party leader is elected by party members. Canadians elect individual members of parliament; however, they are fully aware that members of parliament have limited powers and that when they cast their votes it is for the leader that they are voting.

Which amendment provides for the appointment of an acting president?

The line of succession is mentioned three times in the Constitution.1.) Article II, Section 1: Makes the Vice President first in the line of succession and allows Congress to provide by law for cases in which neither the President or Vice President can serve. With the current law being the Presidential Succession Act of 1947.2.) Section 3 of the 20th Amendment: Provides that if the President Elect should die before the start of his term, the Vice President Elect becomes President come Inauguration Day for the full term for which the President was elected. Also allows Congress to provide by law for cases in which neither the President Elect or the Vice President Elect are able to serve.3.) 25th Amendment: Ratified in 1967, it provides that the Vice President is the direct successor of the President. It provides for situations where the President should become temporarily disabled such as the President undergoing a surgical procedure or is deemed mentally unstable. It also states that when the Vice President assumes the office of the President, the Vice President vacancy be filled by the President and confirmed by Congress.
