Catholic AnswerYes, for a Catholic marriage is a sacrament from God to give grace to a man and a woman who take each other in a monogamous union for life. Matrimony is a mirror of the love that Our Blessed Lord has for His Bride, which is the Church. Marriage is to be fruitful, one of the two objects of holy matrimony is the begetting of children, the other being the love between the husband and the wife. For the Catholic, there is no such thing as same-sex "marriage". For a Catholic to even attend such an act is a sin, to act as a witness would be pushing into very serious sin meaning that the Catholic could no longer receive Holy Communion without making a sincere confession to a priest.

Can you have a catholic wedding after the civil wedding?

The answer below is simply not true. I can't stress it enough. The responder is 100% wrong. You absolutely can have a wedding in a Catholic church after you've had a civil service. How do I know? Because my Catholic wedding is schedule for this November, nearly two years after my civil service. Wrong wrong wrong. A Catholic is not allowed to undergo a civil ceremony. If you mean to do a civil ceremony and then follow it with a Catholic ceremony you will be refused a Catholic wedding. The Catholic Church only sponsors the sacramental marriage that It witnesses between its members - it is considered an implicit denial of the Faith to undergo a non-Catholic ceremony for whatever reason and thus it is sinful. If you originally had a civil ceremony and then later found out you are not married since you as a Catholic require a Catholic ceremony, you will usually be permitted after consulting with a priest who must first examine the marriage history of you and your partner to ensure there are no impediments. In some countries of Europe, such as France and Monaco, the State denies the civil existence of any marriage which has not been duly authorized by an agent of the State. Therefore, to be legally wed in the eyes of the law, all couples living in these countries must have a civil ceremony performed first, and afterward, if they care to, a church one. In the eyes of the Church, however, a civilly married couple is not married until after the church wedding.

Does the Catholic church recognize civil marriage and a civil divorce?

Two baptized persons are recognized as married. [I'm pretty much certain that the answer below is wrong. The Church recognizes Protestant marriages as valid. While it would be illicit - i.e., wrongful - for a Catholic to marry outside the Church without dispensation, the marriage would still be valid. The Church would recognize the marriage - for example, they wouldn't need (nor would they be allowed) to be married again in a Catholic Church, as they would already be married.] Absolutely not! The church will only recognize a marriage in a catholic church! Answer: Civil marriage (no reqirement of religious affiliation or participation) is an option in most countries as are marriages performed in any church recognized by the country. The church has no option on recognizing the validity of the marriage. The church however may have some input as to whether the marriage has been "sanctified" Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1625 "The parties to a marriage covenant are a baptized man and woman, free to contract marriage, who freely express their consent."

Can Catholics serve as a bride's maid in Lutheran wedding?

Yes, the bridal party (groomsmen, bridesmaids) do not have to be Lutheran.Roman Catholic AnswerYou need to speak with your pastor, your priest about this. If either of the people getting married is Catholic then they must get married before a priest. If both of them are protestant, then there is nothing wrong with the wedding, but whether a Catholic may participate in a non-Catholic wedding as an official witness, that you would have to ask your priest.

Why does the catholic church teach condoms are wrong?

The Catholic Church teaches that the use of condoms for the purpose of contraception is morally wrong because it goes against the Church's teachings on the moral purpose of sex and the importance of procreation within marriage. The Church holds that sexual activity should be open to the possibility of new life and that the use of contraception undermines this purpose.

Because the Catholic doctrine was that Rome was the centre of the universe and all things revolved round it. When Galileo saw the moons of Jupiter orbiting jupiter, this proved that Catholic teaching and beliefs were wrong and if this was wrong, what else about Catholic teaching may be wrong!
