== == * Yes. Even if you startled the dog most dogs will jump, but do not snap. Some puppies will mouth a person that may appear to be snapping. It's playing, but gently and firmly any puppy should be trained properly. There are good courses to go too to train you and your puppy or there are good CD's out by: Cesar Milan (Dog Whisperer) that is an excellent choice to train your puppy. A puppy is much like any baby of any species (including humans) and are not aware they are being rough so it's up to the owner of the puppy to say 'No!' Then push the puppy away. Some larger bred puppies are more aggressive in play and the owner has to teach them what is playing and what is aggression and when that aggression should be used (protecting you home or family.) If the puppy is still continuing this type of aggression (growling, then snapping) it's highly advisable you take your pup for a thorough check-up by your vet to be sure there are no problems making the pup feel this way (could be in pain.) If there is nothing physically wrong with your pup then you can use two methods to stop this behavior: A light pat on top of the nose with two fingers and the word "shame" or "stop" and when they do praise them or use a clean spray bottle with cold water and when they start to snap give them a sprinkling in the face with the water. It doesn't take long. Along with letting them know who the boss is in the house and lots of love your pup should do just fine.
