Kindergarten is very important in today's world. Years ago it was just a place to send little 4 or 5 year olds to learn the alphabet. Intoday's world that is what nursery school is for and before your child can get into kindergarten he/she must pass a kind of test to see if they know their A B C's and can count. Today's kindergarten has become part of the learning cycle a child goes through and prepares them for 1st grade

Not at all! Not every school even has a kindergarten. In order to graduate, you will need a certain number of credits, which you will start picking up in middle and high school. You will also need to be able to pass the standardized tests. Kindergarten is not required.
No, preschool in not necessary in the sense that you'll be able to enroll your child in kindergarten whether or not he (or she) attends preschool.
However, it has been seen time and again that children who attend preschool are at a significant advantage and do better in kindergarten and elementary school as compared to children who don't. Therefore, I'd advice in favor of enrolling your kid in preschool to help him learn and perform better in future.
It is an institution that has been adapted by various countries for their own particular needs. Originally a German concept Kinder = Child and Garten = Garden. It was a child minding/play area for children. Mothers could take their children there to socialize with other kids, mothers could exchange ideas (and probably gossip) and it got both Mum and Child out of the house for a while. Many of these 'kinders' allowed for Mum to go off for a while to do tje family shopping or other errands whilst tremaining Mums looked after the kids. (This is of course the basics). The concept of Kindergarten was brought to other countries and thus adapted to suit local needs. Although the basic idea is present, other are factors now present. In Australia, Kindergarten is part of the govwernment education system in collaboration with the infant welfare system. A child has to be 'signed off' to go to school and this can be done by a government qualified Kindergarten teacher who believes that the child is ready for school ( socially, verbally, intellectually). If a child does not go to 'Kinder', the 'sign off' must be done by one of several other qualified persons. Many schools are releuctant to take on a new student unless that student had attended a registered Kindergarten.
