MapleStory (hosted by Nexon) is the version of MapleStory available to America, usually referred to as MapleGlobal. However, MapleStorySEA (hosted by Asiasoft) is only available to Singapore, Malaysia and the Phillipines. MapleStorySEA was originally part of MapleGlobal, though, and was once hosted by Nexon, until Asiasoft took over. Therefore, as of the current moment, they are not exactly the same. Also, another main difference is that MapleGlobal receives updates to the game first, before MapleStorySEA does.
Not that I'm aware of, but foreign countries have to eat what is available for food to live, for example some countries eat cats and dogs. So it is possible that ferrets are eaten for food.
It's not which is better - they are slightly different. MapleSEA has certain areas and monsters that MapleGlobal doesn't have, and vice versa. If you are in North America, I'd say join MapleGlobal, as the servers will be closer to you, so there will be less lag.
Yes you can play MapleStory without an Asia Passport. MapleSEA and probably other Asian countries' maplestory versions require a passport. If you're playing MapleGlobal version, no passport is required. Here is the website for MapleGlobal: http://maplestory.nexon.net/WZ.ASPX?PART=/Main

There are many countries. Choose three that aren't the country you live in and these will be three foreign countries.
You must specify to whom the countries would be foreign.
