marriage is not only private affair. In it are involved both families. The both partners have to accept the family members of other side. So, new bonds are made and it is most important if the political, economic and religious status of both families is similar.

For example, let us suppose that some lady belong to higher class, well educated, from family with tradition of education, with good job, company of friends and respectful in society. It is almost natural for her to find husband with similar family, religious and political tradition and income.

So marriage is more about the family status of both side. Love itself is secondary here.

So, such tradition is not changed compared to India in the time of Brahman families and kastas.

Even in ancient times, lady from Brahman family had to marry man from the same class and that is consider as natural. Any attempt to brake such tradition can lead to public despise and to lower the worth of such lady. When the self-image is made based on public recognition, for such lady or man it would be great shame and pain to accept somebody from lower class.

The concept of castas is connected with the concept of karma where one is not able to attain any position in society if he or she is born in lower class; on the other hand, the person who is born in family of higher class almost naturally gain position and fame although he or she may not deserve it.

So, as a conclusion, marriage is food for egos of parents of both families rather than expression of love. Therefore, marriage is a way to keep the position in society, expecially if you are from the ruling class.

In the context of contemporary times, marriage is still largely considered a private affair as it involves the personal choice and commitment of individuals. However, societal norms and expectations have shifted, giving rise to more discussions and influence from various external factors such as social media, peer pressure, and cultural expectations. In comparison, the story prescribed portrays an older generation's perspective on marriage being a private affair, reflecting the societal values and traditions of that time.
