Many people believe it has positive health benefits, and it's also a wonderfully flavorful way to sweeten some cookie recipies. Of course, everything in moderation. If you are eating large quantities of any sweetener on a regular basis it of course will not be good for your teeth or stomach, but a small amount of molasses on a regular basis is just fine.
Considering that today's society consumes soft drinks as thirst quenchers, I'd be more worried about the effects of a can of Coca-Cola than a bit of molasses :)
