This happened to my husband.
The surgeon's nurse said: ~Sometimes patients have a lingering numbness from a grounding pad that's used in that specific area (upper outer thigh) of the leg during surgery to prevent electric shock. It's pretty rare, but this is possible and that's probably what it is. After the appendectomy, the things to specifically watch out for are fever or pain (call your doctor right away) or if your bowel movements don't return to normal.~
