Drinking too much water too quickly can upset electrolyte balance in the brain, nerves & heart. This can easily lead to seizures, heart arrhythmia, unconsciousness and even death. Its called water intoxication.
So, not surprisingly, a powerful opiate like oxycodone can be dangerous in doses even slightly above those recommended by one's doctor. The main dangerous is respiratory depression. Typically, a person breathes about 12-15 times a minute when at rest. Under the influence of opiates, the respiratory drive is diminished (reduced). As the dose increases, the level of respiratory depression increases as well. If one takes too much, then respiratory depression increases to a point where there's not enough oxygen reaching the brain and heart. This can cause further respiratory depression making things even worse. If not treated, this can lead to hypoxia and even death.

∙ 13y agoEvery person's body produces chemicals which help get rid of pain. When a person uses Oxycodone or any other opioid pain killer, it is mimicking these chemicals that your body naturally produces. After continued use of opioids, your body no longer sees a reason to create the chemicals because the drug does it for you. When you stop taking the drug, your body no longer knows how to create the chemicals, making you dope sick.

∙ 12y agoOxycodone is habit forming. Mental and physical dependence can occur but are unlikely when used for short-term pain relief. If oxycodone is suddenly withdrawn after prolonged use, symptoms of withdrawal may develop. The dose of oxycodone should be gradually reduced in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Is Hydocone and morphine in the same drug category?
Basically, yes. Percocet is a combination of oxycodone hydrochloride and acetaminophen (Tylenol™). Morphine, like oxycodone, is in the opioid family. Heroin is chemically 3,6-Diacetylmorphine, it has Acetyl groups attached to 3 and 6 position oxygens. It is also semisynthetic and made from morphine. Heroin enters the brain more easily and rapildy than morphine where it is converted to morphine. Heroin is illegal in the US and is used by many methods. By injection its about 2 times the strength of morphine. Oxycodone is not the same substance as heroin, but they are similar. Heroin and oxycodone are both opiates; they therefore possess similar chemical structures. However, due to the minor differences in chemical composition, heroin is a more powerful analgesic (painkiller). Heroin also produces more euphoria and is more addictive.

Oxycodone vs oxycodone with acetaminophine are essentially the same thing. The narcotic in both medications is the oxycodone, the only difference between the two is the addition of Tylenol (aka acetaminophen). Is MS Contin stronger than morphine?
yes it is. but it will not give u the same feeling as Oxycontin... I myself like the feeling of Oxycontin more than morphine. And the morphine really doesnt help with my pain at all. <3 Tabby <3 There are also a few things that should be noted with morphine, that often doctors are not even aware of. Morphine should NEVER be used for a patient experiencing acute or chronic pancreatitis. I learned this the hard way, as I was begging them to stop giving it to me, as it felt as though it were an acid, burning my stomach. Later, through research on my own, I found out that it is not supposed to be used on patients experiencing that illness. I have also found, through personal experience and that of many others I know... morphine makes me very sick. I start vomiting almost immediately, and the jerking and spasms from the vomiting makes me hurt worse, defeating the purpose! It doesn't make sense, but they can give you morphine more often than they are allowed to give nausea injections in the hospital. I have found Oxycontin, oxycodone, and the other meds in this family to be much less likely to cause the nausea and vomiting.
Is morphine 30mg stronger then oxycotin20mg?
Morphine is generally counted milligram for milligram with Oxycontin. Percocet, Vicodin, Roxycodone, morphine and Oxycontin have the same basic active ingredient. So 100mg morphine will be stronger than an 80mg Oxy.
