Any chemical, if you take too much of it, is dangerous and possibly lethal.

Drinking too much water too quickly can upset electrolyte balance in the brain, nerves & heart. This can easily lead to seizures, heart arrhythmia, unconsciousness and even death. Its called water intoxication.

So, not surprisingly, a powerful opiate like oxycodone can be dangerous in doses even slightly above those recommended by one's doctor. The main dangerous is respiratory depression. Typically, a person breathes about 12-15 times a minute when at rest. Under the influence of opiates, the respiratory drive is diminished (reduced). As the dose increases, the level of respiratory depression increases as well. If one takes too much, then respiratory depression increases to a point where there's not enough oxygen reaching the brain and heart. This can cause further respiratory depression making things even worse. If not treated, this can lead to hypoxia and even death.

Every person's body produces chemicals which help get rid of pain. When a person uses Oxycodone or any other opioid pain killer, it is mimicking these chemicals that your body naturally produces. After continued use of opioids, your body no longer sees a reason to create the chemicals because the drug does it for you. When you stop taking the drug, your body no longer knows how to create the chemicals, making you dope sick.

Oxycodone is habit forming. Mental and physical dependence can occur but are unlikely when used for short-term pain relief. If oxycodone is suddenly withdrawn after prolonged use, symptoms of withdrawal may develop. The dose of oxycodone should be gradually reduced in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

It's highly addictive. Cessation of use after using it for a long period of time will result in similar side effects that people experience when detoxing from heroin.

They are both powerful though as a user of both I would say oxycodone at higher doses but not as addictive as morphine would be at a low dose if that makes sense..

Is Hydocone and morphine in the same drug category?

Basically, yes. Percocet is a combination of oxycodone hydrochloride and acetaminophen (Tylenol™). Morphine, like oxycodone, is in the opioid family. Addition by Echo646: Morphine is stronger than percocet, however, and it can be more addictive and more likely to cause dependence, so even more care should be used when taking morphine. Every other opioid is judged by how well they treat pain compared to morphine.

IS Oxycodone and morpine equal?

No, both are analgesic.. but they're not "equivalent" in efficiency.. oxycodone, at the same dosage, is twice more powerful than morphine. 10 mg morphine = 5 mg oxycodone.

Is morphine sul er the same as percocet?

No, morphine sulfate isn't the same as percocet.. which contains acetaminophen and oxycodone. At equivalent dosage and on a person who never took them before, oxycodone is 2 times more powerful than morphine.

What is the difference between oxycodin and mophine?

Morphine is obtained from the latex of opium poppy seed pods. The opiod oxycodone is synthesized from thebaine, another alkaloid found in opium. Oxycodone and morphine differ in their mode of metabolism. Unlike morphine, oxycodone is metabolized by enzymes in the liver that detoxify a number of prescription drugs. One benefit of oxycodone is that it has fewer side effects than morphine. The latter drug brings on a very strong feeling of pleasure and euphoria. There is pleasure after taking oxycodone, but fewer euphoric side effects than from taking morphine. This should cause oxycodone to be less addictive. Street availability is another difference between oxycodone and morphine. Since morphine is so rarely prescribed for home use, it is not commonly sold on the street. There are large numbers of prescriptions filled for oxycodone in the United States. The drug is available in a slow-release form called OxyContin® that is highly popular with recreational drug users.

Is morphine in fentanyl?

No, Percocet is not oxymorphone. Oxymorphone is a combination of oxycodone and morphine. Percocet is just oxycodone, except for 5's and 10's they also have acetaminophen in them.

Will oxycodone come up as opiate on a drug screen panel?

Oxycodone is in the classification as a Opioid but does not come up as a Opiate on a drug test when it comes to a urine test. That is why there is a separate test panel for Opiates and Oxycodone. A Opiate test is morphine based testing for products containing morphine. Oxycodone has a similar structure to Morphine but is not Morphine thus the need for Oxycodone to have its own test panel. Morphine products include Codeine, Heroin, Dilaudid and Hydrocodone, Loratab, Vicodin and Lorcet. Oxycodone products are percocet, percodan, oxycontin , roxicodone and obviously oxycodone. The confusion comes in because oxycodone is a synthetic opiate, however, when it comes to opiates on a drug test it is morphine based.

Can you cut heroin with oxycodone?

NO. Both are opioid narcotics, but there are about 30+ opiate narcotics and they are all different in chemical composition. Oxycodone is just one of many narcotic pain killers known as opioids. When used recreationally the high is very similar between oxycodone and heroin. alot of Oxycontin abusers switch to heroin because it is stronger and cheaper. Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic opioid that is made chemically (usually from thebaine). Compared to morphine, it has a methyl group added to the 3 position oxygen (like codeine), it has a ketone group in the 6 position instead of a hydroxyl group, it lacks the double bond between carbons 7 and 8, and it has a hydroxy group attached to the 14 position. Oxycodone is legal with a prescription in the U.S. and is used orally, its about 1.5 times stronger than morphine. Heroin is chemically 3,6-Diacetylmorphine, it has Acetyl groups attached to 3 and 6 position oxygens. It is also semisynthetic and made from morphine. Heroin enters the brain more easily and rapildy than morphine where it is converted to morphine. Heroin is illegal in the US and is used by many methods. By injection its about 2 times the strength of morphine. Oxycodone is not the same substance as heroin, but they are similar. Heroin and oxycodone are both opiates; they therefore possess similar chemical structures. However, due to the minor differences in chemical composition, heroin is a more powerful analgesic (painkiller). Heroin also produces more euphoria and is more addictive.

Is oxycodone stronger than Darvocet?

Oxycodone vs oxycodone with acetaminophine are essentially the same thing. The narcotic in both medications is the oxycodone, the only difference between the two is the addition of Tylenol (aka acetaminophen). The addition of Tylenol does not necessarily make the combo drug more powerful than the straight oxycodone, but is an adjunctive therapy so to speak. The Tylenol can enhance the pain relief of the oxycodone by working with the oxycodone at pain receptors. So to answer the question, no - oxycodone is not stronger than oxycodone acetaminophen combo.

What is stronger oxycodone or Dilaudid?

Oxycodone is a narcotic drug with no acetaminophin or Ibprofrin. Dilaudid is not mixed with anything. Dilaudid is also stronger than morphine, as is Oxycodone. 5mg dilaudid is equivalent to approx. 40mg of morphine. Do not take any drug unless ordered by a doctor, as either drug can cause severe problems if taken improperly. Oxycodone is an immediate release drug where Oxycontin is the same as Oxycodone but as a time release.

What drug is more effective than oxycodone?

In general, many opiates can be more effective than oxycodone when taken at a high enough dose. But, using common doses taken by mouth, the opiates that cab be more effective are fentanyl (Duragesic), hydromorphone (Dilaudid), levorphanol (Levo-Dromoran), methadone, morphine, and oxymorphone (Opana). There are narcotic analgesic conversion tables and charts available on the internet and in libraries. These can be very helpful when trying to make comparisons.

Is MS Contin stronger than morphine?

yes it is. but it will not give u the same feeling as Oxycontin... I myself like the feeling of Oxycontin more than morphine. And the morphine really doesnt help with my pain at all. <3 Tabby <3 There are also a few things that should be noted with morphine, that often doctors are not even aware of. Morphine should NEVER be used for a patient experiencing acute or chronic pancreatitis. I learned this the hard way, as I was begging them to stop giving it to me, as it felt as though it were an acid, burning my stomach. Later, through research on my own, I found out that it is not supposed to be used on patients experiencing that illness. I have also found, through personal experience and that of many others I know... morphine makes me very sick. I start vomiting almost immediately, and the jerking and spasms from the vomiting makes me hurt worse, defeating the purpose! It doesn't make sense, but they can give you morphine more often than they are allowed to give nausea injections in the hospital. I have found Oxycontin, oxycodone, and the other meds in this family to be much less likely to cause the nausea and vomiting.

Is morphine 30mg stronger then oxycotin20mg?

Morphine is generally counted milligram for milligram with Oxycontin. Percocet, Vicodin, Roxycodone, morphine and Oxycontin have the same basic active ingredient. So 100mg morphine will be stronger than an 80mg Oxy.
