GAZA
The Hamas-led government of the Gaza Strip functions very similarly to a military junta, even though it is not officially classified as anything other than an autocracy. Hamas makes no pretensions to democracy, refusing to hold any elections and claiming the right to power from military might and appeal to Divine Authority.
WEST BANK
The West Bank is divided between regions controlled by the Palestinian Authority and regions controlled by the Israeli Military Authority. The Israeli Military Authority regions are under control of a foreign (from the position of the Palestinians) government and do not use any democratic means to govern the people under their purview. The Israeli Military Authority is responsible only to the Israeli Civilian Government and Israeli citizens, not Palestinians. The Palestinian Authority has made overtures in the past towards democracy, but only when they believed that they would win. When Hamas won a serious upset victory in 2006, the Palestinian Authority foreclosed the possibility of future elections and has held onto power using martial law.
