No, pasta is.
The pizza that Americans enjoy is nothing like that is found in Italy. The types I found lacked the tomato sauce, but I know that they use it. Most I encountered were simple "thin" rounds of bread with meat (sausage, ham, pepperoni, or anchovies) and vegetables (onion and bell peppers). They are placed on the round of dough and then brushed with olive oil. The cooking is essentially the same as our pizza, high temperature for a short time on a stone.
So, comparing our pizza with theirs is very difficult. I can say one thing: their pizza is more often eaten for lunch than dinner.
Pasta,pizza,olives.
pizza
Pizza has a long history in the US and in Italy. The food was derived from Italy, more notably from Naples and Sicily with their own unique takes on the food. The US adopted it and many of its citizens consider it to be an American staple. It's all because of how everyone love the food so much.
