After examining the difference between model years , it appears the only difference in the break light assembly is the style of wire harness. All other parts of the rear light assembly are identical between model years. You may view the differences here.

I just had this problem on my 98 Frontier because the brake lights were staying on. I had to replace the brake light switch and the brake light button for it to go out.
how can i replace a brakelight bulb on a 2002 nissan frontier?
how to change the brake light in a Nissan frontier 1999
The brake lights in your 1983 Nissan pickup truck are controlled by the brake light relay switch. When the brake light relay switch malfunctions the brake lights will stop working.
There is no switch to activate or deactivate the brake lights on a 1988 Nissan. The brake lights automatically turn on any time the brakes are pressed.
how to change a rear break light on a 1998 nissan frontier four cylinder?
Check fuse under the hood of your truck (engine compartment), NOT under the dash.
the switch on brake pedal is faulty and needs replacing
It is probably the brake lights that are on due to a misinstalled or damaged brake light switch.
They are tied to either the brake lights or the tail lights.
The brake light switch on a Nissan is located just behind the brake pedal. It sends a signal to the brake lights when the pedal is pressed to turn them on.
Hopefully you've done brakes before, if you have there's really no surprises, just make sure you take off the tires.
