However the island of Ireland is divided up between 2 countries. Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland makes up one of the four countries of the United Kingdom.

No. Until 1921, Ireland was part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. From 1921 until 1947, Ireland was still a member of the British Commonwealth and in 1948 it became a fully fledged republic with no political ties to the UK.

Southern Ireland is a incorrect name used to refer to what is the Republic of Ireland. It is wrong in many ways, and often used to distinguish from Northern Ireland. In fact the most northern point of the island of Ireland is actually in what many people call "Southern Ireland". Northern Ireland is in the northeast of the island of Ireland. See the link to the map below. There is no such thing as the republic of the United Kingdom. There is the Republic of Ireland and there is the United Kingdom. They are completely separate. The United Kingdom has a Queen, not a president, so it is a Monarchy, not a Republic.
