Hasselblad, the camera company, used to use grains of rice to achieve very high levels of polishing of camera components. Not sure if they still do this.
Also, rice bran and rice grains, when coarsely ground, are useful as a facial scrub. You can mix the rice powder or bran with a small amount of water or liquid facial cleanser and wash the face in the normal way. The result is smooth, exfoliated skin. A Japanese Skin Care brand, Komenuka Bijin, markets products based on rice bran for this purpose.
Raw white rice is also an excellent desiccant for wet electronics. If you accidentally drop your cell phone or iPod into water or leave it in the rain, take the battery out and place all the parts into a plastic lunch bag. Fill the bag with rice and leave it sealed for 24 hours. The rice will draw all the moisture out of the components, and the device will be in operational order once again.
