With UV you will still need to add something to the pool for residual protection. Using a salt water system you are making chlorine from salt. There are alternatives that are chemical free. One method use electronic oxidation and ioniztion and is 100% chemical free.

IODIDE
Iodine "iodes" - violet Chlorine "chlorous" - greenish yellow
The ozone keeps out harmful rays from the Sun and helps to keep the planet in a normal temperature range. Ozone is also a powerful anti microbial and works by breaking the bacterial cell wall. It is used in sewerage treatment works since short wavelength Ultra Violet light generates ozone. It is passed through polluted water to sterilise it before it is pumped into rivers and oceans. UV light generating ozone is being used in swimming pools and water treatment works as an alternative to chlorine and is tasteless.
Gentian Violet
Many gases are colourless, but not all. Some examples :chlorine - yellowish greenbromine - reddish browniodine - violet
ultraviolet can be used in water treatment plants to kill bacteria instead of adding chlorine or ozone. gamma radiation can be used on some packaged foods to kill microorganisms and parasites instead of pasteurization. It is almost universally used on spices already.
Chlorine is Green gas Bromine is brown/red liquid , with a brown red vapour Iodine is a black solid, with ?? purple??? vapour.
