Salvation is by faith, which is repentance (a change of mind) to trusting in the person and sacrificial work of the Lord Jesus Christ alone for eternal forgiveness and salvation. (Romans 4.5; Ephesians 2.8-9; Titus 3.5-6, Acts 4.12; 1John 5.13)
No. Salvation is not by faith alone. If faith is alone then it's dead, being alone.
yes, because if you truly believe in God you will want to be like him in whatever you do so this is a yes and no question.
Here's the Roman Catholic answer. No. Anyone could just stand there with their hands in the air yelling "praise JEEEEEEZZUUSSAH!" and lead a sinful life. There are other things that one must do than just believe. The reason we Catholics hold firm that one must do "good works" to gain salvation is because Christ did what he had to do already, he opened the gates of heaven, now the question is, "Do we want it?" God created us (and you can read Genesis and confirm this if you want to) to love Him. Remember that, the sole purpose we were created was, to love Him. But the only way we could 'love' him was if we freely chose to do so. He had the angels, but they already loved him, he new that they were sort of already "programed" for it. So us humans came out from that. Now getting to heaven is a matter of wanting it or not, SERIOUSLY WANTING IT. God cannot force his will upon us to go into heaven (after all, heaven is a place were we are eternally united in God's love). If we don't want his love, then we don't get it, hence: Hell. Through our actions throughout our lifetime we show whether we want it or not, if we are giving are selves up for God's good work and charity, we show that we want to be WITH God forever. By just, you know saying, yeah, I guess... Uhu, I believe in Christ, alleluia! And sitting on your butt doing nothing, does that really show you want it? Fine then, God won't force you into heaven because based on your life, you could care less about it. And if he forces you just because your supposed to believe to be saved then he's contradicting he's main purpose of our very existance: To truly love him. He has something special to share with us but can one be given something if their arms are already full? A Catholic nun once said: "The closer to God you get, the more humble the approach."
The Catholic church is so rich, and I hope you can be apart of it, all the answers are there. Do not seek out others first, they only carry the controversial statement that is only meant to inflame you, but they don't ever tell you why we think it's TRUE. No why WE KNOW IT"S TRUE! It all makes sense and in the end it boils down to pure love. We are all people, from all over the world prevalent in the poorest of nations and still there were ever theres ground. We are the largest charitable organization. over 1,000,000,000 followers, and some how we've stayed above Islam no matter how great it grows. Now if that isn't enough proof that God is with us, growing his flock, then I don't know what is proof enough. We are all just trying our best, trying to find our way...
Answer
Different denominations have different takes. For Lutherans: yes--you can be saved by faith alone--God's grace. From there, you try to live your life by Jesus' example, with compassion.
yes. they believe faith is practiced alone Latin roots: -Sol=alone -Fid=faith
Justification.
Christianity. Various denominations within the Kingdom will argue about what it takes, exactly-word for word to be saved. James argues " What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can faith save him?" The answer is no. " As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." When James says a person is not justified by faith alone, he means that a person is not justified by mental assent alone. As such, he says, " Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder."
justification by faith
Martin Luther was born in 1483 and he died in 1546. Luther was a German priest and he believed that salvation is not earned by good deeds but received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus as redeemer from sin.
Salvation by grace alone and through faith alone.
Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to the Bible alone.
He at first mainly attacked the selling of indulgences in the church and then later on added ideas of "salvation by faith alone" and how to live as our savior Christ did.
Absolutely!
Salvation by faith alone.
This is like comparing apples and oranges. Both Calvin and Luther vigorously proclaimed salvation by faith in Christ alone. The doctrine of predestination says that God has chosen the ones who have faith from the beginning of time, and emphasizes that faith and salvation comes from God alone. But again, salvation is by fiath alone, regardless of where it comes from.
many people have faith and rely on it to live and save themselves
