Usually cable is faster than DSL, however different factors may limit performance of either. ADSL is theoretically capable of providing up to 8 Mbps, however, distance from central office and line quality affect actual speed that can be obtained. In some ways it is and some ways its not. In my experience, cable seems faster than dsl when i am for example gaming or downloading something like a song. times like that, cable is faster. but when your just Surfing the net, they seem the same.

∙ 13y agoI am not sure as far as technically, but from personal experience I have HughesNet Satellite and I hate it. At times it is very fast and at times very slow. I am constantly going over my fair access policy usage for downloading too much and most of the time my windows update puts me over. My mother-in-law has DSL and she never has slow down or over limit. If I had a choice I would switch in a second, but DSL is not available in my area yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will come soon. :) If you decide to go with satellite I would steer clear of hughesnet!!!

Yes, satellite internet service is much faster than DSL. However, the downside is that satellite internet is much more expensive than traditional DSL service.

∙ 10y agoCable modem speeds vary widely. While cable modem technology can theoretically support up to about 30 Mbps, most providers offer service with between 1 Mbps and 6 Mbps bandwidth for downloads, and bandwidth between 128 Kbps and 768 Kbps for uploads a lot faster than dial up ever was

∙ 14y agoThey can be, but most of the time they aren't. I've never seen a DSL line that gives over 6Mb/s download, whereas cable can go into the tens of Mb.
