Though faith is above reason, there can never be a contradiction between faith and science because both originate in God. It is God himself who gives to us the light both of reason and of faith.

Whenever the Bible makes a scientific reference, it is always accurate, but the Bible is not necessarily using science to prove itself true. For example, Columbus used the Bible to try to prove that the earth is round. He succeeded in proving the world is round AFTER he put his faith in it and went out exploring. [Note: he based his ideas on a verse that used the word "spheres" to describe the celestial bodies in the night skies.
