There are alot of problems regarding to the OS, there are alot of fixes out there but its not completely playable for most people.

I've installed it on my new laptop that comes with Vista. It works fine but sometimes I have to remove the disc, reinsert it then click the icon to make it work.

You do not need the original sims 1 to play the sims 3 world adventures. You need to have the original sims 3 base game to be able to play world adventures.

The Sims 1, 2, and 3 are all the same thing. But the higher the number the more features the game includes. So if you've played the Sims 2, that's kinda how the Sims 1 & 3 are.
All current sims 2 games are vista compatible. as for sims 1, I am not sure but I do know it will play in compatibility mode if you have any problems

The Sims 3 is not officially compatible with Windows 2000. It can be run if you download Xinput1_3.dll, Xinput1_2.dll and Xinput9_1_0.dll and put them in the directory with The Sims 3's .exe file.
I installed Sims 2 Double Deluxe (Comes with the original Sims 2 game and the nightlife and party stuff expansion packs.) and it works great. I haven't had any problems with it. I have an hp laptop with windows 7.
