Siri was named by a Norwegian Apple programmer who used to work at StormGeo in Bergen, Norway. Apparently, he was fond of Siri Kalvig, the founder of StormGeo while he worked there. Years later, he began working in the voice recognition area at Apple. It was his idea to use "Siri", named for Siri Kalvig of StormGeo.
