If your asking which is better I would say an acoustic guitar. Because you don't have to buy an amplifier or anything like that you can just start playing and practicing right away.

Beginners usually have trouble alternating switching between chords. A good way to practice this is to sit down in a quite area and visualize the chords as if you were playing the guitar.

I started out with a very cheap guitar but nowadays you can get better quality instruments for cheap. I now play a Norman B18 acoustic guitar and I recommend it as I find it is a nice balance of price versus quality.
