Obviously not. Instead, you might have some problem with the Bendix on the end of the starter's shaft, or maybe the flywheel is a bit messed up. So it might take a few tries, but it eventually works. Or you could have some issues with the solenoid or the wiring, and it might do nothing for a bit and then start.
my first thought would be to check the starter . if you can tap on the starter and it starts after that..you have a bad starter .

Buy you saying it then catches and starts makes it sounds more like a bad starter solinoid.
Might be you starter or starter rely and/or coil.

If the truck is manual. There are a couple of place to check. A bad ignition switch, bad clutch interlock switch or a bad starter relay. If it is an automatic. The selector switch could be bad.
