Cedar chips (mulched) is good and leaves a nice scent. Sand mixed with Baking Soda is also good. Costco carries a good cheap clumping brand (nothing in it to harm your cat) and it absorbs odor. If you like you can also mix Baking Soda in with the cheaper brands of clumping kitty litter. The clumping kitty litter is the best because you can scoop out their poop without wasting too much litter.

Try to use a litter that is recomended for ferrets (my personal choice is Yesterday's News as it is made from recycled newspaper) as some kinds of litter can cause health issues or (in the case of the sandy kind of litter) your fuzzy might like to play in it. Every other day. ......... Most recommendations are to clean (scoop) a cat's litter box daily. You wouldn't want to use an un-flushed toilet tomorrow, would you? Changing of the entire litter in the box will be listed on the package by the manufacturer. Some litters are more absorbent, like the non-clumping kind, and will need to be changed entirely more frequently. With clumping litter, you should be able to just add some fresh litter every few days for about a month before cleaning out the entire box.

No, ferrets will not use a litter box with a lot of feces in it, they prefer a clean litter pan. And you cannot use the same litter for cats that you can for ferrets. Use litter specially made for ferrets, which cost more. With a cat, you can use cheap clay litter which cannot be used for ferrets, so it make better sense to have separate litter pans from other contributors: Not really...ferrets insist on corners, and do much better when the front end (i.e. side of a corner without a wall) is at floor level - they poop, then scoot a few inches and use the floor as toilet paper. However, because of their insistence to dig and the fact that many types of litter can harm their eyes (anything with crystals in it...and of course, using cat litter without crystals is a smelly pain...also, clumping litter is a HUGE no no since it'll stick to them and they'll ingest it - not good for their narrow digestive tracts)... a much better alternative is to use dog potty training pads. I personally use the neat N dry brand, and cut them in half into triangles so that they work well in the corner. They're great at absorbing wetness and odor - and much easier to clean. I just change them once a day and put them in that morning's newspaper plastic bag before I put it in the big trash can.

It's made of recycled newspaper pellets and special odor absorbers. Yesterdays News is also good and cheaper than Marshall litter, which is the same thing. If your cat is an indoor/outdoor cat. You must provide a clean place for him or her to use the bathroom inside as well as out. Get a plastic litter box at a local pet store, put about 3" of litter in the bottom. Most litter box kits come with the plastic pan and scoop to clean it out with. Cats are very clean animals. They are also extremely smart. Show your cat where the litter box is located and it should not take long at all for him/her to know it's there and begin using it. I have six cats; four of which were strays. I have not had any problems with any of them going to the bathroom anywhere other than in the litter box. I promise you will not have a problem if you provide her/him with a litter box with clean litter and leave it in an area where they can access it. You need to scoop out the litter box at least every other day. Enjoy your cats, they depend on you, and provide unwavering love to you. :)

You can convince some ferrets to do tricks for food, and some animals follow their owner around, and most can learn to come when called. They listen slightly better then a cat, but they will never obey like a dog would. They good news is that ferrets are pretty harmless compared to a dog, and most are gentle and playful, so when you spend time with them, they'll soon learn not to bite, use the litter box, and even comprehend what you want from them, but whether they listen or not is up to them!
