okay well, the 2.2l ohv engine that gm introduced in the early 90's is the same thing that comes in the caviler and sunfires. it is an interference engine....meaning the the valves come past top dead center when in the open position. this means bending and breaking of valves will occur if the timing chain breaks
Maybe, but not likely.
Yes, the 3.1 L is a interference engine. In fact I am working on one now that the timing chain broke and bent several valves.
2.4 liter - 4 cylinder - SOHC ( timing belt ) interference engine 2.4 liter - 4 cylinder - DOHC ( timing belt ) interference engine 2.7 liter - V6 ( timing chain ) interference engine 3.0 liter - V6 ( timing belt ) interference engine
NO it is an interference motor 180,000 broke timing chain, bent #3 exhaust valve, luckily it must have stopped quickly as no more were bent.
yes
No, it is not an interference engine. It also uses a timing chain, not a belt.
not gospel but 4.0 sohc engine is an interference major damage if timing chain or timing chain tensioner breaks
They have a timing chain, and it IS a interference engine. So read-up before you jump in!
No.
If the timing chain broke, the proper method involves pulling the old motor and replacing it with a working one. the 2.7 is an interference engine and it will have either bent valves or holes in the pistons if the chain broke.
it has a chain 1 primary and 2 secondary and the engine is an interference engine
My 1991 b2200 is a non-interference engine. Timing belt broke and I just replaced it. No damage and runs smooth.
