MOST ARE NOT-however not all, you need to know exactly which engine version you have. There are about 7 possible engines that year-here are most common/likely. 4G64 is an interference motorlike the 4G63,and 4G69 however, the early 8-valve 4G64 is a non interference engine.

If it's anything like my 01 montero 4x4, its not fun. you have to remove the wheel bearing, and repack it. takes time and patience. your better off taking it to a garage for this one.
interference engine--don't let the timing belt break, or you will incur serious engine damage! also, better replace the water pump at the same time you replace the timing belt.

There's a plastic cable with teeth inside your antenna. A gear in the antenna base engages this "cable" and pushes/pulls the antenna. Sounds like either the gear or cable has some broken teeth.
