I have been unable to obtain an answer from the Mint or the US Treasury. Its Crazy they don't have a way to contact them by e-mail to ask such questions. I have to assume that eventho the 2009 overstrike was struck on a genuine (Legal Tender) US Mint issued eagle, the removal of the original mint mark and replacing it with a dc mint mark (as well as the proofing) probably negates this coin as a legal tender coin. Since this is the same as defacing US Currency, I'd be interested to know how the treasury department views this coin. If anyone finds out, I'd like to know. It does server a useful purpose of filling the 2009 hole in the Proof Eagle set....Thanks...Bill
The name of the eagle on the legal tender note is called the Golden Eagle. This was to represent the national bird and the strength of the united country.

A 2007-W Silver Eagle is one Troy ounce of pure silver.
The U.S. did not make a silver coin with a double eagle design. Please post a new question with more information. This "coin" was minted and sold by The Olde New England Mint" It is not legal tender, it is a bullion coin. It weights 1 ounce of .999 silver and measures 39mm in diameter. Current value is 17.50 to 20.00.
Because if it has a face value, it is allowed to be considered legal tender. Legal tender coins generally have little to no sales tax and very few import restrictions. Had it simply been a silver medal or round, more jurisdictions could tax the sale of them and it would be harder to import them into other countries.
Because the coin is not a silver eagle, with a date 1902 the coin is a MORGAN dollar. The first Silver Eagle was made in 1986.
A 1 pound Silver Eagle is worth about $200.
The symbol for Silver Eagle Acquisition Corp. in NASDAQ is: EAGL.
Silver Eagle coins were first minted in 1986 and are still in production today.
Yes, Silver Eagles are 99.9% silver.
A 2002 silver eagle is worth whatever one ounce of silver is worth. At the time of writing, an ounce of silver is worth about $22 and a silver eagle would be worth the same. However, silver fluctuates in price on a minute to minute basis.
