I would travel with others and think about a weapon. Typically, nothing will happen to you, but there are bears and bad guys in the world. Mainly, you should learn to be safe anywhre and weapons don't have to be the answer, but sometimes they may be. Suggested reading: "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson, who walked the entire Appalachian Trail. In it, he can tell you some stories about safety.
In West Virginia you can not carry a concealed weapon anywhere without a permit. If you have a permit then you can carry a concealed weapon in a hospital as long as there is no signs stating that you cant. Also, If you do not have a permit, you cannot carry a weapon openly anywhere at night, witch is considered concealed. Please check with local law enforcements first! The information I provided is with a little research and is just given as an idea on what the law could be!
if you mean a walking stick it is called a cane, some policemen carry a night stick(weapon)
All things being equal, the amount of noise a weapon makes with the same ammunition should be the same. A gunshot may SEEM louder at night mostly because there is a lot less noise from other sources in the night. The decrease in background noise can allow the sound of a gunshot to carry much further.
Yes,cannibals may be on this entire earth, so be safe as: Carry a weapon all the time, never be alone outside or at your house, have a with a weapon, lock your car doors, and house doors never walk alone at night and you might live.

No I do not think P platers should have a night time curfew, but do think, they should only carry one passenger, unless the passenger are say 30 +. Teens giving other teens lifts is not a good Idea on the whole.
The illegality of whether carrying a wooden sword is legal or not always comes down to intent. I can legally play baseball or cricket with a wooden bat, but if I decided to go out at night and visit someone with the same bat it could be construed as intentionally carrying an offensive weapon, because I am not looking to play cricket at night. Anything can be used as an offensive weapon, the law is about intent. Carrying a wooden sword is not illegal, it is what you intend to do with that sword.
