It is in the western part of the United States. The Continental Divide in the USA is located in the Mountain Time Zone in the "West" half of the United States. The Continental Divide however extends north from the Bering Sea in Alaska, through western Canada and the USA, and through the middle half of Mexico, terminating in Central America. This is the hydrological divide that separates the watersheds that drain into the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean, and Atlantic Oceans. There are more then one simple Continental Divide, however this one is the most well known and accepted as such term.
The American Continental Divide is the Rocky Mountains. Any rain falling west of them or on the northern side of them eventually goes into the Pacific OCean bu the Colorado, Colombia, American, Sacramento, Snake, San Jauquine and other Rivers...anything to the east flows into the Atlantic and the Gulf of MExico via the Rio Grande, Mississippi-Missouri, Ohio, Hudson, Delaware, Potomac, and other rivers.
