The Continental Divide is the watershed. east of the Divide rivers flow east, south or north. West of the Divide, rivers flow west, north and south. The Continental Divide is the Rockie Mountains.

It is in the western part of the United States. The Continental Divide in the USA is located in the Mountain Time Zone in the "West" half of the United States. The Continental Divide however extends north from the Bering Sea in Alaska, through western Canada and the USA, and through the middle half of Mexico, terminating in Central America. This is the hydrological divide that separates the watersheds that drain into the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean, and Atlantic Oceans. There are more then one simple Continental Divide, however this one is the most well known and accepted as such term.
