The gulf stream is an underwater current that flows along the sea bed. It travels down from Greenland, past Canada and the USA until it reaches the Gulf of Mexico. It circles the tropical waters of the Gulf until it is very warm then it travels across the Atlantic Ocean towards Europe. It then travels up the English channel and towards Norway, this warm current of water is the reason for warmer weather in France and England despite their distance to the north pole is roughly the same as Newfoundland.
