Possibly. Mobile processors are typically much more expensive than their desktop counterparts, so if you are trying to compare an Intel mobile processor to a desktop AMD processor, you will quickly get confused. Within the mobile market, Intel processors are much more power efficient and generate less heat. That, not raw performance, is the driving force in mobile computing.
Now, if you are looking into a desktop computer, the AMD Athlon 64 is probably a better choice, both for performance and the fact that you can't use a mobile processor in a desktop without an adapter.
As the Celeron D is a product line and not a specific processor, there is no specific comparable processor. Depending on the model. the Celeron D is comparable in performance to various Athlon 64, Athlon XP, and Sempron processors.

No. The Celeron and Pentium Ms predate the Intel Core line by several years.
Amd is just awesome then intel.
The Intel chip is faster and is easier to overclock than the athlon.
There are Celeron dual core processors today. However, just because you have Celeron processor, it does not mean your Celeron processor is a dual core processor. The easiest way to tell is to look at the Intel sticker on your computer. If it says "Dual Core," then it is dual core. If it does NOT say "Dual Core," then it is not dual core.
