Yes, it's brilliant if you get some of the higher models (e.g. e320 cdi, e350).
The smaller engines are a bit under power. You can go down to your local Mercedes dealer and they'll let you try it out.
EDIT: They in my opinion are not under-powered at all, they either have a V6 or V8 engine, some even have a turbo-charger in them and they have roughly 300 horse-power, much better than any Honda or Toyota of similar size.
