Dogs also have a canine-specific influenza virus that they get and spread to other dogs, usually in kennels, dog shows and other places where dogs are in close contact with each other. People are not known to have had this virus. The symptoms are similar to the symptoms in humans. There is a vaccine that has been developed and was approved for use in 2009 to prevent flu in dogs. Ask your veterinarian for more information.
