NO. The crankshaft sensor is mounted in the side of the engine block behind the starter. You will have to remove the starter to get to it. The cam sensor is bolted to the top right side rear corner of the intake manifold. It is tucked in under the intake just alittle and it is hard to see.
Gm. did not use a crank shaft sensor in 1988, It had a distributor that done everything.
It will be screewed into the transfur case tail shaft housing. Where the drive shaft slides into it.
There is not 1 on that year. They were NOT used untill 1996
It is in the passenger side of the timing cover towards the bottom.

It is bolted in the drivers side of the transmission tail shaft with 1 bolt. It will have a electrical connector plugged into it.

If you slide up under the front of the engine and look at the front bottom pulley on the engine you will see the crank sensor just behind it and it will be in the left side of the timing cover. 1 bolt holds it in.
NO it does not. If it's not firing then you need to check the ignition module, pick-up coil and the coil. Could just have a bad coil wire......
