How do you get the crankshaft off using a gear puller?

The first thing to do is remove the snap ring on the end of the crankshaft. The puller is made up of a half moon steel plate that slips between the block and the gear, a heavy steel bar that has bolts threaded through each end and that screw into the half moon piece, and a larger bolt that is threaded through the center of this plate. This bolt has a fairly broad end that contacts the center of the gear, and a hex head for a socket on the outside end. Using either an impact wrench or long bar on the socket, this bolt is screwed down until the gear is free of the crankshaft.

How do you set an engine in its dead center position?

Top dead center on an engine is defined as when the piston is farthest from the crankshaft. Bottom dead center is when the piston is closest to the crankshaft on the engine.

Is the center bolt on the crankshaft pulley reverse threaded?

If you still are having trouble with this. Use an impact wrench to remove it. If you do not own one rent from a auto parts store. And use RED loctite thread locker when reinstalling. If all else fails get a good breaker bar and a cheater bar and a crank pulley holding tool from a auto parts store. Do NOT use a ratchet you will just break your tool and be in deeper dookey! Good luck!

What is the proper way to remove harmonic balancer on 67 lemans 326 motor?

After removing the harmonic balancer retaining bolt and washer (you may need to immobilize the crankshaft by securing the flywheel ring gear), you will need to use a tool known as a wheel puller or a hub puller, such as a KD2251 as made by KD Tools. The tool consists of a long center bolt that runs through a center threaded hub attached to three adjustable splayed arms with holes in each at the working end. By bolting each arm to the existing pulley retention bolt holes in the harmonic balancer and then turning the long center bolt of the hub puller clockwise into the center of the crankshaft snout, the harmonic balancer will be "pulled" from the crankshaft. Be certain to utilize a wide centering point in the end of the long center puller bolt to prevent damage to the threads in the crankshaft snout. The harmonic balancer can be reinstalled by utilizing various length bolts which fit the threaded hole in the crankshaft snout, a heavy washer, and appropriately sized spacers. After carefully aligning the harmonic balancer on the end of the crankshaft snout, using a longer bolt, tighten (clockwise) the bolt into the end of the crankshaft. When this bolt runs out of travel remove the bolt and replace with a shorter bolt or employ shims. Repeat until the harmonic balancer reaches the shoulder on the crankshaft. reinstall the harmonic balancer retention bolt and washer, tightening it to the required torque specification. All of this is true....but Pontiac did not use an interference or press fit balancer. Most of the time once you have removed the large bolt in the center they can just be pulled right out. Installation is usually done by just pushing it back on. There are the occasional tough ones though that will have to be pulled with a puller.

How do you remove 1997 Avalon crank shaft pulley?

Removing harmonic balancer Chevy engine?

Remove the big center bolt that holds the harmonic balancer in place. If you have a complete hub puller assembly, it should screw into threaded holes. You'll need to work something out to protect the crankshaft threads when you tighten down the puller, just be aware that you don't want to destroy the crankshaft by messing up the threads. Tighten the puller and it should remove the harmonic balancer for you.
