No, Chinese Shar Peis also have black tongues. Dogs of other breeds may have black spots, as well, but only the Chow and Shar Pei is known for its solid black/blue tongue.

What is a Chow Chow?

A Chow is a breed of dog that people believe originated in China. They are close relatives with the Shar Pei and one of their distinct features, in which they are known for, is their blue-black or purple tongue.

What if your staffy has black marks on her tongue does this mean anything?

No, this is probably just one of your dog's unique features. Shar Pei's and Chow Chow's have completely black mouths, and they do not suffer from a disorder.

What is the dog that has a black tongue?

Because Chows are the dogs most known as having black or black-spotted tongues, some mistakenly assume that a dog with a black tongue is a Chow or at least part Chow. In reality, there are many other breeds of dog that may have black spots on their tongue or gums. The Chinese Shar-Pei (commonly referred to as the 'wrinkle dog') is another breed that is known to have a black tongue. Many breeds are known to have tongues or gums with black spots, prompting less knowledgeable owners to think they may have a dog that is of mixed parentage rather than a purebred. The following breeds are ALL known to have black tongues:Airedale (If purebred, they only have black spots, not an entirely black tongue and it does relate to Chow Chow bloodlines in the breed development in this situation)AkitaAustralian Cattle DogAustralian ShepherdBelgian SheepdogBelgian MalinoisBichon FriseBull MastiffCairn TerrierCollieCocker SpanielDalmationDoberman PinscherEnglish SetterGerman Shepherd DogGolden RetrieverGordon SetterGreat PyraneesIrish SetterKeeshondLabrador RetrieverMastiffNewfoundlandPomeranianPugRhodesian RidgebackRottweilerSiberian HuskyTibetan Mastiffas well as several other breeds that are less well known. The black spots on a dog's tongue are a result of excessive pigment, much the same as freckles or birthmarks in people.

What does a beagle chow mix dog look like?

There is no correct answer for this one. You could say somewhere between the lab and chow, but I've seen many mixes that looked like pure bread animals. Sometimes only an experienced person can really tell, and to be honest, a mixed breed can (sometimes) make a better pet (The breeders will hate me for that one). 30+ years with chow chows has taught me that Chows can be very hard headed and mean (protective) animals. Mixing with a lab can produce many good qualities. You can train a chow to fetch your neighbors dog a lot quicker than a ball.

What is a chow mix?

Anytime both parents are not from the same breed the resulting pups are mixed. This means if one parent is chow chow and the other is anything else, the pups are mixed. To call a dog a chow mix would intend that the animal was breed from a chow chow on at least one side, although many are actually from a long line of mixed.

Polar Bear and a Chow Chow have in common that is not true of other mammals except one very tall mammal?

The chow chow has as many teeth as a polar bear, unlike other dog breeds. The hind quarters and stance is identical of the polar bear.

What does chow chow eat?

All dogs are different and like different food. My Chow chow like Beneful, but your chow might like something else. Try different foods until you find one your dog likes.TIP: Your dog might get bored with the taste after a while, so try to switch it up :)

Why do chow chow's have blue tongues?

Honestly, no one knows. It was once believed that the Chow Chow was related to bears in and around the area of China, Mongolia and Manchuria who also shared the blue black tongue. However, genetic testing reveals that the Chow Chow is 100 percent canine. This particular trait is only shared by the Chinese Shar-Pei. It has been also theorized that it may have been genetic mutation. This may well be one of Mother Nature's many mysteries that we shall never truly know.

Does anyone know of a rather new dog breed created with a mix of Chow Chow Great Pyrenees and a Keeshund?

Yes. Keeshonds are in one of my books, they look kind-of like chow-shaped huskies and are very fluffy and apparantly very good family dogs.
