Timbre is the quality the sound of a musical note played on an instrument that lets you distinguish a guitar from a Saxophone. At a finer level it lets you distinguish between an Electric Guitar and an acoustic guitar. Finer still, between a good instrument and a poor one.
The F35 is a full size acoustic folk guitar, an entry level instrument by Yamaha. I have one, and it is a very well made instrument for the price.. just replace the bridge pins and saddle with something of higher quality, and throw some ernie ball slinkies on, and you've got a very nice sounding all-around acoustic with minimal investment. It is very pretty too and I like it alot.
Yamaha acoustic guitars are some of the best available.

I started out with a very cheap guitar but nowadays you can get better quality instruments for cheap. I now play a Norman B18 acoustic guitar and I recommend it as I find it is a nice balance of price versus quality.
The best possible audio quality comes from listening to a live performance of acoustic instruments.
If by acoustic bass, you are referring to the upright bass (acoustic bass can also mean a bass that is styled like an acoustic guitar), there are many reasons why an acoustic bass is more expensive. For one, it's hand-crafted! Most basses are factory-made, and are thus less expensive. You can't factory-make an upright bass, you have to hand-craft it. The design is just too complicated. For example, you have to warp the wood on an upright bass to get it to be the right shape. The front and sides are always warped to the right shape, and a lot of times the back is, too. For another reason, the wood pieces are a lot bigger, and therefore harder to get. You can get plywood basses, which are cheaper, but a hand-carved bass is made from wood that's three feet wide and five feet long. Also, the quality of the wood is key. Quality wood is rare, and therefore more valuable. The sound quality is dependent on how well crafted the bass is. The better the crafter, the better the instrument. On electric bass, the sound quality lies mostly in the pickups and amplifier.
