No. It cannot play real games, only small, basic games. Its basically the same thing, except switch the psp games with the original gameboy games.
EDIT: It is becoming better than a psp. Games are getting much more sophisticated, and many are just as good as psp games, if not better (considering use of accelerometer and touch screen).
