Miller is a very common name in America. Not only is it found in German speaking countries, both with that spelling and others, as well as England and Scotland, it is also a name adopted by other nationalities in place of their native spelling for the same occupational surname, most often after entering through Ellis Island NY.

It was common for the admittance staff working on Ellis Island to Anglicize surnames of they sounded too "foreign" or difficult to spell.
