Yes, Fire In The Sky is a true story of a group of loggers who sighted a UFO. One of those loggers, Travis Walton, approached the UFO. out of curiosity, and ended up being abducted in plain sight of his fellow co-workers, and was gone for days. After Travis Walton was returned, he told of an incredible and terrifying experience with beings who did not look human. Both he, and his co-workers (the other loggers) went through extensive testing, including lie-detector tests by numerous sources (ie; police, UFO investigators etc.), and passed. One logger who failed the lie-detector test the first time around later took it again, and passed. Investigators think that the only reason why this person failed the first time around, is because he was so scared while recalling the events, his reactions to questions could not be accurately documented at the time he first took the test. After the movie was released, Travis Walton did one interview, stating that the experience he and his co-workers had was true. He also stated that he didn't want any more attention in regards to what happened to him, and after that, he refused any more interviews on the matter.
The film Man on fire was originally based on a series of books by author A. J. Quinnell. Man on Fire loosely follows the first book of the series about a former Marine and Foreign Legion soldier turned mercenary. It was remade in 2004.

If you mean about the characters, well it is just an average ex-soldier carrying out his life, same as most Vietnam War movies, although they are not based in real, flesh and bone people, it shows the reality of the average soldier.
