The pharynx (or throat) is divided into 3 parts which are (from superior to inferior) nasopharynx, oropharynx and laryngopharynx. The first part, the nasopharynx, is specially adapted for respiration. The 2 lower parts are adapted for both respiration and digestion as both air and food pass through them.
