Mines a1.7 diesel but I think the clutch arrangement is the same. visually the clutch pedal is higher should be higher than the brake pedal. To check You measure the at rest distance the top of the clutch pedal to the top of steering wheel to the pedal depressed position to the top of the steering wheel 126- 132mm you adjust by going to the engine compartment levering with a long screwdrive the lever backwards and unclipping the cable. Wind the plastic knob reseat by movinf the lever and clipping in place again repeat until setup correctly
slightly differant ratios,full syncromesh+reverse,cable operation,different bell housing.f23 great,f18 complete let down,weak,un-reliable
3 forward 1 reverse all non syncromesh
On the gearbox.
u can get your reverse lamp wiring from fuse box there..check it out
Sounds like your gearbox or clutch may have messed up. Check your clutch and gearbox fluids and then secondly check the clutch plates and gearbox.
You need to either update the transmission or replace the brake pads or replace the wheels on the vehicle
On my 98 A4 1.8T I had the same problem. The problem was the entire headlight switch on the stearing column went bad. I dont know if the headlight switch has anything to do with the reverse lights but from my own experience the reverse light problem is caused by thhe reverse light switch which is in the gearbox. I got a price of
on top of the gearbox under the clutch lever
this is normally on the gearbox
you can easily locate it on top of the Gearbox Housing...
a common problem is a water coolant pipe or front air intake pipe obstructing the gear change lever on the top of the gearbox. a pain in the arse but easier to fix than a broken syncro. if you can get the car to reverse by holding the gearstick in reverse than this could be your problem. if its grinding than you have a damaged syncro, or your clutch doesnt dis-engage properly
The reverse light sensor is located at the side of the gearbox and has two wires running to it. To test run a wire across the two and if it lights up that is your problem.
