Why is swimming in a natural water different from swimming in a pool?

Swimming pools are chlorinated (have Cl2 added to it) and filtered to decrease bacteria and dirt content.

How does chlorine effect newly pierced ears?

Your colors look brighter and your white look whiter. Chlorine is an oxidizer (bleach contains chlorine) Chlorine is used in swimming pools to kill bacteria that is harmful to humans, in lower concentrations it's used as a surface disinfectant to kill bacteria and mold in kitchens and bathrooms. When used in pools it's concentration is monitored to ensure it is in safe levels that work to kill germs but low enough to not bleach your skin* (*not that it would but I am just saying for humour content). As for your ear piercings the pool should pose no harm to your piercings and you should shower after swimming and rinse the piercings out just to be on the safe side.

Can you swim if your chlorine is to high?

This would not be advised as when the chlorine content in a pool is too high(above 8.0pH) it can cause Eye and Skin Irritation. It is possible to, though it is not advised in the slightest as it may not have killed the bacteria in the pool, therefore if you have an open cut it may become infected and you are at higher risk of disease.

Can you use ocean water in swimming pool to top it up?

It is not recommended to use salt water to top up your pool even if you are using an salt chlorine generator. The average salt content in a "salt pool" is between 2500-4500 parts per million (ppm) and should remain in this level range constantly. The salt content of seawater is 35,000. If you added a significant amount of salt water, you would be raising the salt content to unsafe levels that would cause corrosion and staining. If you are using regular chlorine to sanitize your pool it's still not recommended because you will still be introducing very high levels of salt to your pool chemistry that would lead to the same problems.I hope this helps. What is the best way to treat irritated eyes after swimming?

If you are getting eye irritation in a saltwater swimming pool it is most likely due to overproduction of chlorine. so the thing to do is test the chlorine content of the water and if it is over adjust the setting so it produces less chlorine. A salt water pool should be less irritating on the eyes because the correct salt content is approximately the same as the amount of salt found in tears. or in saline eye drops.
