THE PROBLEM COULD BE THAT THE PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH NEEDS RE-ADJUSTING. TO DO THIS FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS (WHAT YOU WILL HAVE TO DO TO FACILITATE EASE IN ACCESS IS TO REMOVE THE AIR-INTAKE BOX WITH HOSE TO GET TO THE TOP OF THE TRANSAXLE): 1. Disconnecthe negative battery cable. 2. Remove the nut attaching the shift control cable from the transaxle manual shaft lever. Position the control cable out of the way. 3. Place the manual shaft lever in the Neutral position, remove the nut and the manual shaft lever. 4. Detacht he park/neutra switch electrical connector. 5. Removet he park/neutral switch mounting bolts and remove the switch from the transaxle manual shaft. To install: 6. Install the park/neutral switch to the transaxle manual shaft and install the switch mounting bolts Do not tighten the mounting bolts unh the switch is adjusted. 7. Install the manual shaft lever to the park/neutral switch with the nut. Make sure that the shaft lever is in the Neutral position. 8. Adjust the switch in the following manner: turn the switch body until the hole in the body of the switch aligns with the hole in the manual shaft lever. Insert a drill bit or equivalent into the holes. Tighten the switch mounting bolts to 8 ft. Ibs. (11 Nm). 9. Attach the electrical connector. 10. Install the control cable to the manual shaft lever with the nut. Adjust the cable so that there is no slack in the cable and that the selector lever moves smoothly 11. Reconnectth e negativeb attery cable Check for proper starting and proper reverse light operatron.
It will be somewhere on the shift lever or linkage.
It is located on the side of the trans where the shifter lever is. also called neutral safety switch
Is the device you are calling the manuall shift lever sensor really a neutral safety switch? It is a device to help prevent the vehicle from being startted in a drive gear.
If your car is a "sport" model with the turbo engine, there will be a switch under the dash. If not, then you will not have a switch OR spoiler! Your manual lists options you may not have.... Mine is a turbo so it has the switch and spoiler.
To put the top down on your '87; first reach between the seats, just under the edge of the hatch that will eventually cover the top. You'll find a lever that swings toward the driver side door. On mine, I have to click it twice to release both sides of the top. Then above each of the visors, there is a lever you must pull all the way over. This releases the pins on the front of the top. Now, on the end of each door, you'll see a small switch with an arrow on it. Click the switch and this releases the hatch. Now, standing outside, lift the back of the top so you can open the hatch. The hatch will remain in the up position. Then put the rear of the top back into the original position. Lift the front, toward the rear of the car, and your top will fold into place. Gently close the cover and you are topless!
There is a little switch beside the light inside the hatch. When you open the hatch, look up at the inside back of the hatch lid, where the inside light is. The light itself has a switch to keep the light off, so that you can leave the hatch open without the light beeing on. Then, beside the light (attached to it, but off to the side), there is a small lever switch that enables /disables the interior lock / unlock switch. That's so you can give someone the valet key when they are working on the car, or just parking it. The valet key won't open the glove box or the hatch. It's a security feature. -- John
Yes. MPLS stands for manual lever position sensor. It is the old name for what is now called the neutral safety switch.
Even the manual is vague here. You need to look under the chrome trim where the main hatch lever is. Off to the far right is a handle which, if you get down and look, appears to be a vent or something. Put your fingers in and pull up, this will release the hatch... then pull up on the small handle on the hatch itself.
Clutch pedal lever. SWITCH IS AT THE TOP OF CLUTCH PEDDLE BUT THE OVER RIDE FUSE IS # 20 ON FUSE PANEL REPLACING THE FUSE WILL DISCONECT SWITCH.
