I didn't even know that there was a Civil War flamethrower.
The M2 Flamethrower.
Lifebuoy was the flamethrower's nickname, and its official name was the Flamethrower, Portable, No 2. It was a flamethrower developed by the British, and was used in World War II.
You'd need to specify which civil war, because the modern flamethrower was developed well after the American Civil War, so it had no impact on that war. Grenades would have had very little - they did exist, but they had a fuse which had to be lit before they were thrown... much different from modern hand grenades... and thus, their use by land forces was almost nonexistent. They were more commonly used on naval ships by crew members assaulting or defending against boarding by another ship.

Crazy Horse wasn't in the civil war. He was in the Little Bighorn war of Montana, he was the one with many others who killed General Custer. He never allowed his picture to be taken, he though it stole your soul.
