Yes, theoretically, a strong enough hurricane could survive long enough if it traveled through the gulf and into Texas and then to the center. But even if this never happens, the middle of the U.S. has enough to worry about with tornado alley.

If the ocean temperatures reach around 122 degrees, a hypothetical storm that can be formed. That will give them a huge lifespan. This storm is called a Hypercane. This can be caused by an asteroid impact, volcano, supervolcano eruption, or intense global warming. Hypercanes would have wind speed of over 500 mph and a central pressure of 70. Storm surges can be more then then 59 ft high. The system can become as huge as North America.

However, there was the most largest and intense hurricane on record. It's called Typhoon Tip. It was half the size of North American and packing winds of 160 mph with gust up to 190 mph. (nearly 200 mph).
