Both terms, "science" and "religion" are poorly defined so it is hard to answer accurately.

A religion could be viewed as an allegiance to a system of belief that answers the Great Questions (Who am I? What is my purpose? How did things come to be? What happens after I die?). Religious views that are shared by different people and they work together supportively within this system could be called an "organized religion." Pretty much everyone has a religious view since they have opinions to these questions.

Science can be viewed as a process of analysis (scientific method) or the body of study of natural (repeatable, testable, observable) phenomena.

Since the scientific method isn't very effective in answering definitively the Great Questions (How does one test a hypothesis for "What is my purpose?" or "What happens after I die?") Science and Religion is often thought of as separate. However, many religions do see themselves as being in some sense "scientific." Certainly, the scientific method (induction and deduction cycle) is used by religious groups along with other groups. Likewise, there are people and groups that think of themselves as devotees to Science that hypothesize or at least assume answers to Great Questions.

In the end of this... since there is no way of testing definitively answers to the Great Questions, no religious group could be described as based on science. However, no field of science that definitively embraces answers to the Great Questions can be called science (in the narrow sense of the term) either. A "scientific group" that claims answers to these questions has, to some extent, become a religion (organized or otherwise).

The only one I can think of is Humanism. It certainly isn't going to be Scientology.

Are religion and science mutually exclusive?

No. Religion is a faith based interpretation of that which is. Science is an observation based interpretation of that which is. They are both interpretations of that which is. Where they diverge is when faith and observation do not agree. In this case, either the faith needs to be refined or the observation needs to be refined or, as is often the case, both need to be refined, because they are still interpretations of the same thing - that which is.

Why do people think science and religion are not compatible?

Although science and religion are not necessarily contradictory the point of view of each is different. Science is a model based reality. Stephen Hawking has a paper given on the difference between science and the need for God. A good model gives a good, rigorous, and testable explanation that can predict future repeatable outcomes that can be tested. Religion gives us a faith based reality that doesn't give predictions that can be tested. Religion can be based on past experience both spiritual and physical. Faith is the underlying proof which is difficult to give to someone that doesn't have it. Therefore as a Christian and a scientist I do not have compatibility problems with science and religion as long as the literature and focus of each are recognized.

Everything! All the supplies we have for science have either come from nature or have been based upon nature! Also ,some sciences are based on studying nature.

How are science and religion related?

Science and religion both seek to explain the world around us, but they operate in different ways. Science uses evidence and experimentation to understand the natural world, while religion often involves faith and belief in the supernatural. Some people find that science and religion can complement each other, while others see them as fundamentally incompatible. Ultimately, how they are related depends on individual perspectives and interpretations.

Are there Scientific proofs in religions?

== == Religion is all about faith, whilst science is a branch of overall knowledge for mankind. Religion is about belief whilst science emphasises more on knowledge-seeking. However religion is something that cannot be proven - right or wrong and true of false. Religion & Science at times may not be compatible or can run parallel to one another. Just as science cannot prove religion, it goes without saying religion cannot empirically prove anything on science. However, for believers science is part of religion, and NOT vice versa. ---- Thus, there is no way to prove the truth of any religion scientifically. All religions are equally based on faith alone, and which one you choose to follow, if you choose to follow a religion at all, is simply a matter of faith. Religion is the source of all knowledge of the world. Religion is for our spiritual ascension while science is for our physical ascension in this world. Both the disciplines are necessary for the successful physical as well as eternal life. Both are distinct in themselves and hence cannot be compared at any instance. Science cannot reach the spiritual zenith of religion and Religion cannot bow down to the levels to justify the theories of Science. "RELIGION BEGINS WHERE OUR INTELLECT ENDS". The things for which we could reason out automatically becomes 'science' for us. And the things which are beyond the reach of our intellect and power of reasoning automatically becomes 'religion' for us. Science is the vast ground and Religion is the unending sky. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
