Yes, actually there is! Connecticut was named by an early Dutch explorer whom first traveled across the Sea of Connecticut on his way to the new world. Jorge Hartford grew up with dreams of traveling to America to begin a new life of renting customized double-decker boats. During his voyage in 1547, a violent storm sent his vessel from northeast Sweden to the Black sea/Connecticut sea border. He crossed the Sea of Connecticut in the early night and when he awoke the next morning, his rudder had been mysteriously aimed directly for Nova Scotia. After 3 more weeks of smooth sailing, he landed on what is now known as Frankstown, Maryland. He traded his recently deceased brother's horses and oxen to the local Indians for a large plot of land that he settled on, and was eventually named Connecticut (after the graceful sea that guided his ship to the new world).
